🙌It's the Friday Call to Worship!🙌
Have you ever wondered why it’s called “Good Friday”?
Today we remember the Son of Man, the Word made flesh, crucified on the cross. (John 1:14) He left heaven for earth to walk with us and talk with us. On Thursday, Jesus was betrayed. On “Good Friday”, He was “pierced for our transgressions” and “crushed for our iniquities”. (Isaiah 53:5) The crowd cursed Jesus while He prayed for their forgiveness. For our forgiveness. (Luke 22:34) Nothing could have seemed good on that Friday.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, "The cross is not the terrible end to an otherwise godfearing and happy life, but it meets us at the beginning of our communion with Christ.”
That Friday wasn’t a good day. It was, in fact, one of the darkest days in history. (Matthew 27:45) But it was the day that “the punishment that brought us peace was on him.” By his wounds, we were healed. (Isaiah 53:5)
I’ve had a handful of days that haven’t felt good lately… extra challenging, stormy, overwhelming days. But the resounding, almost defiant, thought bubbling out of my spirit is, “It’s a good day to need God.”
We all need God. We don’t need Him to make our clouds roll away. We need Him to carry us when we can’t go on, rescue us when we’ve wandered, and redeeem us for our sins. We need Him to pull us close, breathe new life into us, and speak over us. We need it again and again, every single day. Good Friday is good because it was always part of the Father’s plan for His family. He made sure His kids could come home. No one has to be left behind. He made a way where there was no way.
It’s a good day to need God because you can have Him. Free, fully, forever.
