Cory Asbury released the award-winning song, “Reckless Love”, in 2017 and was thrust into the crosshair of Christian critics. The worship leader was accused of misrepresenting God as “reckless”. He took advantage of the spotlight to talk more about God’s love. “…His love bankrupted heaven for you. His love doesn’t consider Himself first… He doesn’t wonder what He’ll gain or lose by putting Himself out there. He simply gives Himself away on the off-chance that one of us might look back at Him and offer ourselves in return.”

Last year, Cory found himself outside the graces of Christian pop culture once again. He  posted a light-hearted video targeted at the attention circulating around another Christian artist. Forest Frank’s public response to Cory’s video communicated hurt and a longing for unity. Cory responded immediately with a heartfelt apology. The two artists later explained that they worked out their differences privately first by phone when Cory called Forest. Since then, Forest and Cory collaborated on the song, “Misunderstood”, and Cory is leading worship on Forest Frank’s “Jesus Generation Tour”. The setlist in his sold-out tour includes a worship medley with Cory and his song, “Reckless Love”.

Cory released another beautiful worship song recently called “Outsing the Angels”. Make sure to read that OUT-SING. Every streaming service released his new title as “OUSTING the Angels” and unleashed another wave of controversy. The typographical error was corrected, and Cory’s good-natured response was simple. "I did not survive the 'Reckless Love' discourse just to be accused of staging a heavenly coup… If you see it spelled ‘Ousting the Angels’… no you didn’t.”

It’s not really about getting it right. It’s about using the platform God gave you to keep making it about God.

What would happen if the apostle Peter had been on social media? He was quick to speak and even faster to react. Still, Jesus called him the rock on which He’d build His Church. (Matthew 16:18) God can use everything we are for our good and His glory if we give it to Him. (Romans 8:28)
