πIt's the Friday Call to Worship!π
Pent-up energy is ricocheting off our walls during an extra long, extra loud, extra rainy school holiday. I'm giving my all, but my autistic son needs more than that. The rest of my family gets less of me, and my son still doesn't have enough. I start each new day already storm-battered.
I tiptoed to my Bible one morning while the house slept to see if Jesus was still in the storm-stilling business. I found David already praising Him for it, long before Jesus walked on water. Psalm 65 glorifies the God of our salvation "who stills the roaring seas, the roaring of the waves, and the tumult of the people." (Psalm 65:7)
My storm-weary heart didn't immediately join in the praise when I read this. I had more of a "prove it, God" attitude as I took to a commentary to dig deeper. (Yes, He did prove it.) "Enduring Word Commentary" discusses the enormous energy created by noisy storms and roaring seas. (As a mom of three boys, I also have a few things to say about the enormous energy created by noise and roaring!) The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports an average hurricane releases energy equivalent to 6Γ1014 watts of electricity. That's 200 times the worldwide electrical generating capacity! NASA says an average hurricane can release as much energy as 10,000 nuclear bombs. Suddenly, I have perspective on the size of my little storm in contrast to the strength of God's hand.
The same line of the psalm that praises God's sovereignty over the loudest, most electrical chaos says He stills "the tumult of the people". Our souls's raging, roaring waves become His walkway to draw nearer to us. (Matthew 14:24-25)
Finally, I came to my own conclusion.
If God can take a walk across roaring waves...
If He can subdue raging storms with a word...
If He can quiet the thunderous cries of the people from the east to the west...
Then I'm going to go ahead and join in heaven's worship, even if it's not all smooth sailing here right now.
Start your day today with delight, dancing and faith-filled worship. (Watch the video if you can!) Listen to βYes He Canβ by Cain.
