๐It's the Friday Call to Worship!๐
My sonโs nervous system disability is preventing him from participating in typical 7-year old things right now. Even the most basic parts of daily life are too taxing right now.
I sent our hairstylist an SOS message this week, promising to comb out the matted mess on the back of his head before we came for a โno grooming requiredโ cut. She gave me a speedy trim while my son warmed up to the environment with headphones on. The stylist sent me two chairs down for a shampoo and head massage when he settled in for his cut. Afterward, my son said, โHey, can I get one of those!?!โ And plopped himself into the wash station chair. To his dismay, he wasnโt tall enough to reach the basin. Our extraordinary friend and stylist rushed to my sonโs feet to use her own body to support his legs. She held him in place so he could enjoy a head massage and rest comfortably.
The boy whose body has been in panic mode around the clock relaxed into loving hands massaging him on one end and supportive legs bracing him on the other. He unfolded his arms in total release, exhaled, and said, โIโm just going to lay here and think about heaven.โ It was silly, sweet, and so much more.
Scripture is full of stories of people using their bodies to help another. Friends lowered a paralyzed man through a roof. (Mark 2:1-12) A Good Samaritan rescues a wounded traveler. (Luke 10:35-37) And, most significantly, the Son of Man used His body to redeem our lives for eternity. We are called to use our whole body for the glory of God.
โWe know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.โ 1 John 3:16
