The Trick Shot
Hey Dude Perfect!
I'm sending a SEEMINGLY unimpressive "Trick Shot" video you inspired for two reasons:
1. I made a promise to a 7-year old.
2. I'm wiling to bet even my small testimony matters.
I'm a fellow Texan who's been on the mission field in South Africa for 16 years. We're church-planting in Cape Town now. Our 7-year old son is autistic with a nervous system disability and autoimmune condition. He LOVES sports. But for the last couple months, he's been in a full nervous system burnout. He can't go to school, can't find himself or relate to others. It's like he's empty. I've given him a Kindle tablet with the Dude Perfect app. He spends HOURS "connecting" to you. It's the best he can do to feel connected to people.
I started praying for the joy of the Lord in our house bc it's HEEEAVVVVY up in here. Meltdowns, explosions, family as we know it turning upside down...
And do you know how that prayer was answered this week? My son, Benjamin, set up a "Dude Perfect Trick Shot" challenge for himself in the backyard. There was nothing exceptional about the shot, the setting, or anything at all... unless you know a little boy who hasn't been able to pull himself out of a darkness that's holding him was able to access the joy of the Lord through your role modeling. Your friendship with one another, zeal for life, and Christian values. (He is SO aware of the spiritual realm and can discern without knowing it where there is light and dark.)
You don't know him, but he trusts you because Christ is in you. God used you to make space for play, joy and victory in our house this week. Benjamin worked on his trick shot for hours. He played with his brother the whole time. And he kicked with full bliss while his whole foot was swollen. Thank you for your ministry of friendship, delight, joy and fun! It's so meaningful.
