πŸ™ŒIt's the Friday Call to Worship!πŸ™Œ

I asked my three-year old son, Wyatt, what I should write the call to worship about. He replied without hesitation, "You should write about everything because I just love my family so much."

Context makes that statement so profound. We've just finished a long, hard school holiday. Our six-year old son, Benjamin, struggled at the edge of autistic burnout. There were few peaceful moments and many meltdowns. Little Wyatt adores his brothers and has a special connection to Benjamin. We've watched Wyatt's love for Benjamin grow exponentially in the last months, even while Benjamin lashed out against him and dominated the attention of the household.

My husband and I worried about Wyatt witnessing so much stress this holiday. We saw his behavior change and regress. Still, that sweet little guy regularly marched into his dad's office with shoulders sagging and say, "My brother's having a hard time right now. Do you think you could make him feel better? I just love him so much."

On the first day back to school, Wyatt raced home to pick the best color popsicle to take to Benjamin at his school pick up. I made a video of Wyatt running down the sidewalk, popsicle in hand, embracing his hero brother. Exhausted Benjamin couldn't help but smile and accept the popsicle hug.

Wyatt's love doesn't does not discriminate, but it does heal. It's a love that covers everything, grows stronger in adversity, and softer in hard times. He behaves and misbehaves like every other three year old, and will need support as he grows up in a family shaped like ours. But I believe God hears our prayers and covers him with special grace and Christ-like love.

True Love carried the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus made us way for us to know joyful, unconditional love for eternity. We have an opportunity to encounter that love daily. Run with popsicles. Keep your hearts soft. Give affection when you're given aversion.
